Week 5, half way done with the final quarter of my first
year. This week many topics were covered and many great activities were done.
In our first lecture of the week we discussed a bit about
our WP1 and quickly talked about what was to come next. We also talked about
the comments left on them by Zack and how we should not focus about changing our
WP1 just yet. The daily lecture tip was also quite informative this time because
it was about how to use italics in our text. I never really learned when to use
them so this tip was very useful. To end the class on Monday, we got into groups
and pretty much performed the activity present in Murder! (Rhetorically
Speaking). I actually found this activity entertaining and fun because while
doing the reading, I didn’t really do the activity like the author had intended;
it also really solidified the effects rhetoric has when writing certain pieces.
Our second lecture was just as entertaining as Monday’s and
one could even say it was more action-packed. We started off by trying to
individually trying to define the word move;
I thought that we individually made solid definitions, but once we started to
analyze it together we came up with some definitions none had thought about—like
the build-up to the move. We learned about the importance to the build-up when
taking a look into the Rock’s wrestling move and Michael Jordan’s basketball
move. The reading that was assigned for that day was something I had read this
past summer so it was still fresh in my mind, but it was a great refresher to
techniques to better analyze text.
All of the work done this week was very useful for doing my
WP2PB2. I say this because it gave me a better look at moves and got me thinking about WP2.
